Pinot Grigio – Pinot Gris
It’s all about personal preference really. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are actually produced from the same white grape. The slight difference in the name is based on where the grapes were grown. For instance, if the wine was produced in Italy or California it’s called Pinot Grigio. (NY Housewife Ramona’s favorite) However, if it’s produced in France, Canada, or even Oregon it’s called Pinot Gris. Pinot Grigio from Italy tends to be dry. The French version of Pinot Gris leans more toward fruits and flowers. The difference in taste depends on the climate the grapes are grown in and how the wine is produced. Here are a few examples to consider.
Terlano 2006 Pinot Grigio – Pinot Gris/Grigio White Wine
by Terlano from Trentino-Alto Adige of Italy. This Pinot Grigio has a light straw color and the pleasant aromas of melon and apples with a crisp and light taste.
La Vis 2010 Pinot Grigio – Pinot Gris/Grigio White Wine
by La Vis from Trentino-Alto Adige of Italy. This Pinot features a delicate blend of flower and spice scents, and the flavor is a medley of almond, tangerine and apricot fruits. La Vis 2010 Pinot Grigio balances a soft texture and crisp citrus finish perfectly.
And then, of course, if you are familiar with the Housewife Series on Bravo, there is always much to do about New York Housewife Ramona Singer’s Pinot Grigio.
Ramona Singer 2010 Pinot Grigio – Pinot Gris/Grigio White Wine
by Ramona Singer from Veneto, also of Italy. Pinot Grigio is all Ramona will drink, and now that she has produced her own Pinot Grigio, she won’t go to a party without it. It’s fruity but crisp with a mild hint of hazelnut. Ramona finds the soft and delicate finish irresistible. If she won’t leave home without it, her Pinot Grigio must be fabulous.
Cheers!
