Amazon Wine Venture Comes to An End
It was just a year ago that Amazon announced it was launching a wine venture with California’s Napa Valley and other U.S. regions wineries. Amazon has not released any details, but the company did announce that the Amazon wine venture has ended.
It was always a wonder how Amazon was going to deal with the issue of shipping wine to consumers when many state laws limit the direct shipment of wine. The laws differ from state to state, but many place several limitations on the shipment of wine.
In an email to wineries on Friday, an Amazon account manager said, “This was a very tough choice for us … I am sorry that we won’t get to realize the vision on which we have collaborated.”
This is really unfortunate because the Amazon juggernaut could have helped change some of the limitation on the state to state shipment of wine. With no major retail entity challenging the shipping restrictions placed on buying or selling wine online to certain states, there seems to be no end in sight. This is truly unfortunate. Another voice is silenced.
Cheers!
